— Christopher McCowen
Christopher M. McCowen was born in 1972 in the United States. Before moving to Massachusetts, he served prison time in Florida from 1993 to 1998 for auto theft and burglary. Later, he lived in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and worked as a trash collector. His regular work route included the home of Christa Worthington in Truro.
On January 6, 2002, Christa Worthington was found dead inside her home in Truro. She had been sexually assaulted and fatally stabbed. Her young daughter was found alive beside her.

The murder shocked the Cape Cod community and led to a long investigation. Police examined many possible suspects over several years.

Investigators eventually matched DNA evidence from the crime scene to Christopher McCowen. He had previously provided a sample during the investigation. He was arrested on April 14, 2005.
McCowen was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated rape, and aggravated burglary. After a five-week trial and eight days of jury deliberations, he was convicted on November 16, 2006.

He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
