Bio

Charles Sears was born in 1949 in New York City. He grew up in a tough environment and faced many challenges during his childhood. Information about his family life and school experiences is limited, but he had a difficult upbringing.

As a young adult, Sears worked as a mechanic for Con Edison. He had a history of getting into trouble with the law. Over the years, he accumulated several arrests that included charges for weapons, larceny, and robbery. In June 1971, he was sentenced to a year in jail for these offenses.

After being released from jail in 1972, Sears found himself in trouble again by December of that year. He was sentenced to three years for more serious crimes, including grand larceny and forcible theft with a deadly weapon. He was paroled in March 1974 and completed his parole in November 1975.

In the following years, Sears became a fugitive. In 1977, he was wanted for hitting a man with a wrench during a dispute. Despite these legal issues, he continued to struggle with his life and found himself in a cycle of crime.

By 1981, Sears was involved in a series of violent crimes that would change his life forever. He would eventually be arrested and found unfit for trial in 1982. This led to his confinement in a mental institution.

Murder Story

On July 5, 1981, Charles Sears carried out a series of violent attacks in New York City. During the early hours, he slashed two male vagrants and critically injured four others. This was not his first involvement in violent crime. Sears had a long history of arrests and convictions, including weapons charges and robbery.

The police arrested Sears the following day, July 6, 1981, near the location of the assaults. At the time of his arrest, he had a bloody razor in his pocket. His crimes shocked the community due to their random and brutal nature.

Sears was charged with attempted murder. He initially pleaded guilty on August 25, 1981, but later retracted his plea, claiming he was under the influence of drugs when he confessed.

In March 1982, after evaluations by psychiatrists, he was found unfit for trial. As a result, Charles Sears was committed to an institution for the criminally insane. He was born in 1949 and was 32 years old at the time of his capture. His actions left a significant mark on the city and its residents.
