Charles Rumbaugh was born on June 23, 1957. He grew up in Texas, where he faced a troubled childhood. At just six years old, Charles started getting into trouble. By the time he was twelve, he had committed armed robbery.
When he was seventeen, Charles was involved in a serious crime during a robbery, which led to a tragic event. Following this crime, he was convicted and later faced execution. At the time of his execution, he was the first juvenile offender in over twenty years to be executed in the United States.
On April 4, 1975, Charles Rumbaugh committed murder during a jewelry store robbery in Potter County, Texas. He was 17 years old at the time. The victim of the murder was Michael Fiorillo, a 58-year-old jewelry store owner. Rumbaugh used a firearm to kill Fiorillo in the course of the robbery.
Rumbaugh was convicted of the crime and received a death sentence. He spent the next ten years on death row. On September 11, 1985, he was executed by lethal injection in Texas. At the time of his execution, he became the first juvenile offender to be executed in the United States in over 21 years.
Before his execution, Rumbaugh made a final statement. He addressed individuals by name and expressed forgiveness for those who did not forgive him for his actions. He said he was ready to begin his journey.
