Bio

Charles Oliver Shuler was born on July 17, 1948. He spent his early years in South Carolina. Information about his childhood and family life is not widely available. Shuler's upbringing was likely typical for the time and place, but specific details about his family, schooling, or interests are not documented in available sources.

Shuler entered into a relationship with Linda Williams. They had a complicated relationship that lasted for about two years. The relationship had ups and downs, leading to conflicts between them.

On September 3, 1999, Linda ended her relationship with Shuler. This decision caused him to become angry and distraught. In the days that followed, there were warning signs about Shuler's behavior. Linda reported to authorities that Shuler made threatening phone calls, expressing his anger and intentions.

Murder Story

On September 8, 1999, in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, Charles Oliver Shuler committed three murders. He used a 12-gauge shotgun to kill his former girlfriend, Linda Williams, her mother, Dorothy Gates, and her daughter, Stacy Gates. The events began when Shuler entered Linda's home around 7:00 PM after breaking a window.

Witnesses reported seeing Shuler's car driving erratically before he crashed into the yard. Once inside the house, he confronted Linda and shouted at her. Buster Williams, Linda's young son, was outside playing and saw Shuler enter the home with a gun. He was too frightened and ran to get help from a neighbor.

Inside, Shuler shot all three women. Stacy, who was just 13 years old, managed to call 911 before succumbing to her injuries. In her call, she told the operator who was responsible for the shooting. Linda and Dorothy died immediately from their wounds.

When law enforcement arrived, they found Shuler on the floor with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was reportedly yelling and cursing at the victims. The entire attack was over in a matter of seconds.

Shuler was arrested on the same day and charged with three counts of murder. He was convicted and sentenced to death on March 22, 2001. After spending over a decade on Death Row, he died in prison on April 2, 2013, due to heart failure.
