1928 - 1932Cesare Serviatti was born on November 24, 1880, in Rome, Italy. Not much is known about his early childhood and family life. He grew up in a city that was rich in history and culture.
As he grew older, Serviatti took on various jobs. He worked as a butcher, which is interesting because it suggests he had experience with knives. Later, he became a nurse at a hospital. However, his time in that position ended badly. He was fired for mistreating patients, which shows that he had difficulties following rules and treating people well.
Serviatti’s life seemed troubled, and he had a series of jobs that did not last long. His activities and relationships with others during this time are not well documented. The facts mainly focus on his adult life and the actions he took. After a few years of working different jobs, he eventually became known for darker reasons.
As a young adult, Serviatti used several tactics to meet women. He would often place marriage advertisements in newspapers. This strategy helped him connect with women who were looking for a partner. He targeted middle-aged, wealthy women, which indicates he might have had specific intentions.
On November 16, 1932, two suitcases were discovered on trains traveling from La Spezia to Naples. The suitcases contained the dismembered body of a woman. Following this, investigators began their work in La Spezia. They had found a kitchen knife with blood on it near the railway station, which added to the mystery.
The inquiry was led by Superintendent Musco in Rome. He had previously handled a related case where Bice Margarucci's body was found in the sea in 1930. The police launched a search for missing women across Italy to identify the body found in the suitcases.
Eventually, a friend recognized the mutilated body as Paolina Gorietti. Before her disappearance, she had mentioned a man named Cesare Serviatti. He had convinced her to meet him in La Spezia under the pretense of getting married. The police quickly located Serviatti at his home in Rome. When they questioned him about the murders, he initially denied it but later confessed.
Serviatti was also linked to the murder of Bice Margarucci, whom he had killed in October 1930. He strangled her in his apartment and then dismembered her body, disposing of it in the Tiber River. During further questioning, Serviatti admitted to five more murders but would not give the names of the other victims. One of these victims was identified as Pasqua Bartolini Tiraboschi, who had disappeared in 1928.
Serviatti faced trial for three murders. The prosecution described him as a dangerous criminal. He received a life sentence for the murders of Pasqua Bartolini Tiraboschi and Bice Margarucci, along with a death sentence for the murder of Paolina Gorietti.
Cesare Serviatti was executed by firing squad on October 13, 1933, at the Chiara Vecchia shooting range in Sarzana.
