murder story

Cléroux's killing spree spanned two decades, during which he murdered two of his wives and a neighbor.

Lise Roy (1990): Cléroux married Lise Roy on July 4, 1987. In April 1990, after Roy discovered that Cléroux had been molesting her daughter, an argument ensued in their backyard. Cléroux bludgeoned Roy to death with a rock, dismembered her body, and buried parts in Heatherington Park and his backyard, concealing one grave beneath a newly planted vegetable garden. He reported to the police that Roy had assaulted him and fled to Montreal, leading to an arrest warrant being issued for her.

Jean Rock (2003): Cléroux met Jean Rock in June 1992. Their relationship was tumultuous, marked by Cléroux's abusive behavior. In the fall of 2003, Cléroux took Rock for a walk near Walkley Rail Yard, where he killed her with a rock and buried her in a shallow grave. To cover up the murder, he paid a woman to write letters to Rock's family, pretending she had left him and started a new life. In 2004, fearing discovery due to nearby construction, he moved her remains, and in 2006, he disposed of them in the Rideau Canal. The remains were found later that year but were not identified at the time.

Paula Leclair (2010): In 2010, Cléroux became envious of his neighbor, Paula Leclair's, apartment. On May 20, he lured her to a wooded area near Fairlea Park, stabbed her with a knife, and bludgeoned her with a rock. He buried her body in a shallow grave and took over her apartment, telling others she had won the lottery and gone on vacation. Leclair's son grew suspicious and contacted the police. During an interview, Cléroux confessed to the murder.

Following his confession, authorities investigated Cléroux's past, leading to the discovery of remains linked to his previous victims. On June 26, 2012, Cléroux pleaded guilty to all three murders and was sentenced to life imprisonment with no chance of parole for 25 years. He died of natural causes on January 17, 2021, at the Pacific Institution in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
