Bio

Bryan Eric Wolfe was born on June 7, 1960. He grew up in Houma, Louisiana. His early life details are not well-documented, but he is known to have faced challenges in his youth.

Wolfe joined the U.S. Army and served for a time. During his military service, he was involved in a robbery incident in 1983, which led to his first arrest. After his military service, he continued to struggle, as he later faced legal issues related to robbery in Louisiana in 1989.

As an adult, Wolfe had a complicated life marked by encounters with the law. He was arrested multiple times and had a history of robbery convictions in Kansas and Louisiana. In Kansas, he committed robbery in 1985, and in Louisiana, he was convicted of robbing a convenience store in 1989.

He was sentenced to serve time in prison but was released on parole. Shortly after his release, he found himself in trouble again, leading to his arrest in 1992. At that time, he was living in Beaumont, Texas, and struggling with personal issues.

Wolfe's life that led to his later actions and arrests is marked by a series of poor choices and legal troubles that began extending back to his time in the Army.

Murder Story

On February 15, 1992, Bryan Eric Wolfe killed 84-year-old Bertha Lemell in her home in Beaumont, Texas. He stabbed her 26 times with a knife. The body was found on the floor of her house, with wounds to her head, trunk, and abdomen. Her coin purse, which had contained about $60 in cash, was found nearby. The purse was unlatched and empty except for a single coin. There were no signs of forced entry into the residence.

Wolfe lived in the same neighborhood as Lemell. He was seen walking in the area shortly before and after the murder. The police collected multiple blood samples from various locations in the victim's home, including her bedroom, bathroom towels, and the front doorknob. DNA testing confirmed that this blood matched Wolfe's genetic markers.

Wolfe was arrested two days after the murder. At the time of his arrest, he had deep cuts on his hand, which he claimed were from a broken beer bottle. However, authorities believed these injuries were related to the stabbing. The investigation revealed that Wolfe had a criminal history, including prior convictions for robbery in both Louisiana and Kansas.

During the trial, testimony was presented about the day of the murder. A friend of Lemell's testified that she had seen her take money out of her purse while shopping earlier that day. This testimony supported the idea that Wolfe intended to rob her. The jury found Wolfe guilty of capital murder, and he was sentenced to death in October 1993.

Wolfe's conviction was upheld through various appeals, with the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals affirming the decision in March 1996. His death sentence was carried out on May 18, 2005, when he was executed by lethal injection in Huntsville, Texas. Wolfe's final meal included fried chicken legs, fried pork chops, barbecue ribs, French fries, peach cobbler, and a banana. Before his execution, he thanked his family and friends for their support and expressed peace with his situation. He was pronounced dead at 6:31 p.m.
