Brian Schlaepfer was born in 1928. He grew up in New Zealand and became well known in his community. As a farmer, he owned over a hundred acres of land and worked in the Paerata area. Brian had a wife named Jocelyn, and together they raised a family. They had five children, including three sons. However, Brian's life changed over time. In his later years, he faced mental health issues, including depression. Family conflicts emerged, especially with his daughter-in-law, Hazel. These tensions grew, and there were worries from family members about his mental health. Jocelyn was particularly concerned and wanted him to seek help, but Brian refused.

Eventually, these conflicts and his declining mental state became critical. On May 19, 1992, following an argument with Jocelyn, Brian's mental health deteriorated rapidly. This tragic turn of events marked a significant moment in Brian's life and his family's history.

Murder Story

On May 19, 1992, Brian Schlaepfer killed six members of his family in a tragic series of events at their home in Pukekohe, New Zealand. The day started normally, but an argument with his wife, Jocelyn, escalated into violence. During the argument, Brian stabbed Jocelyn, causing her death.

After that, he moved through the house, shooting his son Karl as he came to investigate the commotion. Next, he went outside and shot his son Darrell. Hearing the chaos, Hazel, Brian's daughter-in-law, attempted to get help but was also attacked. While she managed to call the police, Brian caught up to her before she could escape.

Inside the house, Brian confronted and fatally stabbed his grandson, Aaron. His granddaughter, Linda, was able to hide and avoid being found. She heard her mother scream and realized that her family members had been killed. Despite the chaos, Linda was able to call the police and described the horrifying events to Constable Jeff Stuck, who stayed on the line with her for hours.

After Brian finished the attacks, he shot his eldest son, Peter, upon his return home. Finally, Brian ended his own life with a shotgun in the brush behind their home. Linda was the only survivor of this tragedy. Following the incident, a significant police response was activated in an attempt to control the situation and ensure safety.
