Bogdan Eugeniusz Arnold was born on February 17, 1933, in Kalisz, Poland. He grew up in Poland during a time of significant change and hardship. Later in life, he attended a vocational school where he trained to be an electrician. After finishing school, Arnold found work in a zinc-processing plant located in Silesia.
Throughout his life, Arnold married three times. Each of his marriages ended in divorce. His wives complained about his aggressive behavior and domestic violence. These issues likely contributed to his struggles with alcohol and negative attitudes toward women.
Arnold lived in Katowice on Dąbrowski Street. He occupied several rooms on the fourth floor of an apartment building.
murder story
On 12 October 1966, Bogdan Arnold committed his first murder. He met a woman named Maria B. at the "Kujawiak" bar. After having a few beers, he invited her to his home. Arnold later claimed that he did not plan to kill her initially. However, when Maria suggested she would have sex with him for 500 zlotys, he became angry. He felt he should be able to get it for free because he thought he was attractive. In his rage, he killed Maria with a hammer. He then covered her body in chlorine and placed it in his bathroom to slow decomposition.
Arnold's next murder occurred on 12 March 1967. He lured a 40-year-old prostitute into his apartment. Her identity was never confirmed. He strangled her, dismembered her body, and hid the remains in his apartment. A month later, on 21 April 1967, he met 35-year-old Stefania M. in a bar. After some time together, he killed her in a similar manner, strangling her and hiding her remains next to the previous victim.
The last murder happened on 22 May 1967. Arnold stabbed a 30-year-old prostitute named Helga G. in his apartment. He hid her remains under his bed.
At the end of May 1967, Arnold's neighbors noticed a bad smell and a lot of flies near his apartment. He had not been there for several days because the presence of four corpses made it unbearable to stay. On 1 June 1967, the police were called. When they entered his apartment, they found the four bodies in various stages of decay, along with many worms and flies.
Arnold had fled and was hiding for a week. He was finally apprehended on 8 June 1967. A police officer noticed him looking unkempt near the Silesian zinc refinery. After questioning him, the officer took him to the police station. There, fingerprints revealed his identity as Bogdan Arnold. He had been hiding in an abandoned warehouse nearby.
Arnold confessed to the four murders and also admitted to trying to poison his third wife. He did not show remorse and blamed his actions on his feelings of anger towards women. On 9 March 1968, he was sentenced to death by hanging. His sentence was carried out on 16 December 1968. Arnold was buried in an unmarked grave in a cemetery for executed criminals in Poland.
