— Bobby Lynn Ross
Bobby Lynn Ross was born in March 08, 1958. He grew up in Oklahoma. As Ross grew older, he began to have issues with drugs. By the time he reached adulthood, he had developed a substance abuse problem. This struggle with addiction would later impact his life in significant ways.
In 1983, Ross was involved in a serious crime that led to his conviction. However, there are no public records describing events or circumstances that occurred in his adolescent years or specific influences that shaped his early development.
Bobby Lynn Ross's early life remain largely unclear, with few public records documenting his experiences before his criminal actions in 1983.
On January 5, 1983, Bobby Lynn Ross committed the murder of Elk City Police Sergeant Steve Mahan in Beckham County, Oklahoma. The incident occurred during a robbery at the Los Cuartos Inn. Sergeant Mahan arrived at the scene while the robbery was in progress. As he confronted Ross, Ross disarmed him and ordered him to lie down. Without warning, Ross shot Sergeant Mahan three times in the head at close range with a .25-caliber pistol.
After the shooting, Sergeant Mahan suffered severe injuries and was taken to a hospital. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of paramedics and medical staff, he was pronounced dead early that same morning. The police quickly identified Ross as a suspect, and he was arrested later that day while driving with two accomplices. During the arrest, officers discovered the murder weapon and items taken from the motel.
After the murder, Ross initially denied shooting Mahan, claiming that another man had committed the act. However, under questioning, he eventually confessed to the murder. He was charged with first-degree murder and robbery with firearms. On October 21, 1983, Ross was convicted and sentenced to death.
In the years following his conviction, there were several appeals and a clemency request, all of which were denied. Ross expressed remorse for his actions and acknowledged that he deserved his fate. He was executed by lethal injection on December 9, 1999, in Oklahoma.
