— Bobby Lee Ramdass
Bobby Lee Ramdass was born in October 19, 1970. He grew up in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County, Virginia. His childhood was marked by difficulties and abuse. It was reported that he faced abuse from his mother's boyfriend during his formative years. His family situation was unstable. His mother worked as a topless dancer, and his father was abusive, believing Ramdass was not his biological son.
As a teenager, Ramdass began to get into trouble with the law. By age 13, he had already started down a path of criminal behavior. His offenses included theft, burglary, and robbery. These early encounters with the police set a pattern for his future.
Throughout his youth, Ramdass was in and out of the juvenile system. His actions continued into adulthood when he turned 18, leading to more serious crimes. He faced various convictions, and by the time he was in his early twenties, he had already served time in prison. His criminal record accumulated further as he began to engage in increasingly violent acts.
In 1992, at the age of 28, Ramdass was involved in a series of armed robberies that escalated to murder. By this point, he had spent a considerable amount of his adult life either in prison or selling drugs. His life was deeply affected by the choices he made and the environment in which he grew up.
After years of involvement in criminal activities, Ramdass’s life came to a turning point in September 1992 when he was arrested for serious crimes, including murder.
On July 15, 1992, Bobby Lee Ramdass killed Darrell Ferguson, a 19-year-old drug dealer, in an alley in Alexandria, Virginia. Ramdass shot Ferguson twice after the young man attempted to flee. Ramdass claimed he needed money and believed drug dealers carried cash.
Just a few weeks later, on September 2, 1992, Ramdass walked into a 7-Eleven convenience store in Fairfax County. He ordered the clerk, Mohammad Z. Kayani, to open the store's safe. When Kayani took too long, Ramdass shot him in the head. After the shooting, he expressed a lack of remorse, telling an accomplice that Kayani's delay was the reason for the action. As he fled the store, Ramdass attempted to shoot customers lying on the floor, but his gun misfired.
On September 11, 1992, police arrested Ramdass. Over the ensuing weeks, he was charged and eventually convicted of the murders of Ferguson and Kayani, along with various armed robberies. The trial revealed that Ramdass had a history of violent crimes and that he committed these acts during a crime spree.
In 1993, he was sentenced to death for the murder of Kayani. On December 6, 2000, he was executed by lethal injection in Virginia.
