Bobby Lee Cutts Jr. was born on May 21, 1977, in Canton, Ohio, United States. He is the son of Renee Horne and Bobby Cutts Sr. Cutts graduated from GlenOak High School in 1995 and later became a police officer with the Canton Police Department.
Despite his position in law enforcement, Cutts had a complicated personal life. At the time of the crime, he was married to another woman but was separated and facing a pending divorce. He was involved in an on-and-off relationship with Jessie Davis, with whom he had a 2-year-old son named Blake. Davis was also pregnant with Cutts’ second child when the events leading to the murder occurred.
Reports later revealed allegations of abusive behavior and a history of strained relationships involving Cutts. Despite these red flags, he maintained his position as a police officer until his arrest for the murder of Jessie Davis.
murder story
On June 14, 2007, Jessie Marie Davis, a 26-year-old pregnant woman, disappeared from her home in Lake Township, Ohio. The next day, her mother found Jessie’s 2-year-old son Blake home alone, with furniture overturned and bleach spilled on the floor. Blake repeatedly said phrases like “Mommy broke the table” and “Mommy’s in the rug,” which raised immediate concern.
A massive search was launched involving thousands of volunteers, including Texas EquuSearch. On June 23, 2007, Jessie Davis’ decomposed body was discovered in a wooded area of Summit County’s Hampton Hills Metro Park. It was later confirmed that she had been murdered on June 14.
Investigators determined that Bobby Cutts Jr., a Canton police officer and the father of Davis’ son and unborn daughter, had killed her during an altercation at her home. According to Cutts’ trial testimony, he struck Jessie in the throat during a struggle, causing her death. He then disposed of her body with the assistance of his high school friend, Myisha Lynne Ferrell, who later faced obstruction of justice charges.
Cutts was arrested on June 23, 2007, and charged with two counts of murder. The trial began on February 4, 2008. On February 15, 2008, he was convicted of aggravated murder for Jessie Davis and their unborn daughter, as well as charges of aggravated burglary, child endangerment, and gross abuse of a corpse.
During sentencing on February 27, 2008, the court imposed a life sentence without the possibility of parole for 57 years. Cutts avoided the death penalty after the jury declined to recommend capital punishment.
Myisha Ferrell pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and complicity to gross abuse of a corpse, receiving a two-year prison sentence with early release after one year.
The tragic case garnered national media attention, highlighting domestic violence and abuse of power within law enforcement. Jessie Davis and her unborn daughter were laid to rest in a single casket on June 30, 2007, attended by hundreds of mourners.
