Bio

Aryon Williams was born on August 24, 1966. He grew up in a neighborhood in Arizona, but not much is known about his early life and family background. Information on his childhood, education, and family dynamics is limited. It is understood that he lived in an environment that may have influenced his later behavior.

As a young adult, Williams became involved in relationships, one of which was with Rita DeLao. According to reports, their relationship was marked by tension and conflict. Friends of Rita later described Williams as someone who exhibited abusive behavior towards her. This relationship and the events that ensued played a significant role in his life.

By the time he was in his early twenties, Williams had been facing challenges that would lead him down a troubling path. He had a history of substance abuse, particularly involving crack cocaine. His addiction seemed to affect his relationships and behavior. Williams did not have any significant prior criminal convictions prior to the events that led to his arrest, but testimonies indicated that his aggressive tendencies had escalated during periods of drug use.

At the age of 23, Williams' life would take a drastic turn, culminating in a series of tragic events that would define his notoriety. Despite his later actions, his early life remains largely a mystery, with little known about formative experiences before he gained national attention.

Murder Story

On January 27, 1990, Aryon Williams committed the murder of his former girlfriend, Rita DeLao, in Pinal County, Arizona. The following day, a hunter found Rita's body about one mile west of Sunland Gin Road, near a pond. Investigators identified her through a driver's license found near her corpse. The crime scene investigation revealed signs of a struggle, and drag marks indicated Rita had been moved from the pond to where her body was found.

Rita was shot three times and suffered severe injuries from being beaten with a sharp instrument. The investigation revealed that she had also been run over by a car multiple times. Later, Rita's car was discovered in a maintenance yard at Casa Grande High School, with evidence of blood on various parts of the vehicle.

During the investigation, Aryon Williams approached police while they were examining Rita's car. He volunteered to assist in locating his girlfriend, unaware that he was a suspect. Witnesses later revealed that Williams had been abusive toward Rita.

Williams was charged with first-degree murder. The trial began on May 4, 1992, and by June 23, the jury returned a guilty verdict. On April 7, 1993, Williams was sentenced to death. The court found aggravating circumstances, noting his previous felony involving violence and the especially heinous nature of the murder. There were mitigating circumstances, but they were deemed insufficient to warrant leniency.

Williams attempted to appeal his conviction and sentence, raising claims about the handling of evidence and challenging the prosecution's case. The Arizona Supreme Court ultimately upheld his convictions and the death sentence, affirming the trial court's findings regarding the murder's brutality and the evidence against him.
