murder story

On January 24, 1991, Arohn Kee killed 13-year-old Paola Illera. He raped, stabbed, and strangled her. After this crime, he began to stalk lone women. He would follow them to secluded areas and assault them.

On September 13, 1997, he attacked 19-year-old Johalis Castro in the basement of her apartment building. He raped and smothered her. Afterward, he burned her body to hide her identity.

Kee then raped and murdered 18-year-old Rasheeda Washington on June 2, 1998. In January 1999, the New York Police Department tested DNA found on Rasheeda's body. They linked it to two other rape victims from 1995 and 1996. This evidence led to identifying Kee, who was now 25 years old. The police announced a reward for information on his whereabouts.

While he was wanted, Kee kidnapped a 16-year-old girl named Angelique Stalling from her Brooklyn apartment. He took her to Miami, Florida. During this time, he frequently moved between hotels to evade capture. On February 19, 1999, Miami police found Kee in his hotel room. They rescued Stalling and brought her back to New York.

After his return, Kee was charged with murdering Rasheeda Washington, kidnapping Angelique Stalling, and two rapes from the mid-1990s. Further DNA tests linked him to the murders of Paola Illera and Johalis Castro, as well as another rape from 1992.

His trial began in 2000. Arohn Kee faced charges for all three murders and three rapes. He claimed he was not guilty. During the trial, he claimed he was being framed by the system. However, survivors of his attacks identified him. The jury found Kee guilty of all charges on December 16, 2000.

In January 2001, he was sentenced to three life terms in prison. After his conviction, authorities tested more unsolved cases in Harlem against Kee’s DNA. In 2004, they matched his DNA to the rape of a 17-year-old girl in July 1994.

Kee’s trial for this crime began in June 2004. This time, he admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. On August 12, 2004, he received an additional 20-year sentence for the rape. This sentence ran concurrently with his previous life sentences.
