Anthony Michael Senter was born on March 31, 1955, in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. He came from an Italian-American family—his father, Michael Senter, was of Northern Italian descent, and his mother hailed from Rovereto, Italy. Originally, the family surname was “Sente,” later anglicized to Senter. Growing up in Canarsie, Brooklyn, Anthony was surrounded by relatives with ties to the mob. His uncle, Robert Senter, was associated with both the Gambino and Colombo families and owned Canarsie Recycling Company, a sanitation front.
Anthony’s early life was already intertwined with street-level crime. As a teenager, he worked at his father's debris business and in his uncle's sanitation company. By age 15, Senter had racked up three juvenile convictions for auto theft. Despite this, he avoided lasting legal consequences due to his age. He was known for being physically strong, with a slick and cocky demeanor that rubbed some associates the wrong way—including Roy DeMeo’s son, Albert.
In July 1977, Senter married an Italian-American woman in a wedding filled with familiar faces from the New York underworld. Even Roy DeMeo, his future boss, was among the attendees. As the 1970s progressed, Anthony became inseparable from his childhood friend Joseph Testa, forming a bond that would eventually earn them the moniker “Gemini Twins”.
murder story
Anthony Senter's entry into the world of organized crime came through Chris Rosenberg, who hired Senter and Testa for auto theft jobs. Rosenberg eventually introduced them to Gambino enforcer Roy DeMeo. Under DeMeo’s wing, Senter became part of a feared faction within the Gambino crime family known as the DeMeo crew. Ruthless, efficient, and prolific, the crew was suspected of involvement in upwards of 75–200 murders, mostly linked to drug disputes, informant silencing, and internal clean-ups.
Senter specialized in auto theft and helped the crew generate massive profits. Despite his success, he wasn't universally liked—Albert DeMeo once said there was “something slick and phony” about him. That didn’t stop Senter from gaining status within the crew. One of the few confirmed murder dates attributed to the DeMeo crew was April 19, 1979, when Roy DeMeo mistook college student Dominick Ragucci for a Cuban hitman and shot him in broad daylight. Senter and Testa fled New York afterward to avoid the heat.
Following Rosenberg’s murder, Senter and Testa grew even closer to DeMeo, with Testa taking on the role of DeMeo’s right-hand man. But by late 1982, Gambino boss Paul Castellano viewed the entire DeMeo crew as too dangerous and unpredictable. He ordered their elimination. When Frank DeCicco, who received the contract, realized killing the entire crew would be near impossible, he made a secret offer to Senter and Testa: kill Roy DeMeo and they'd be spared. They agreed.
According to mob informants like Anthony Casso and Sammy “The Bull” Gravano, the hit went down in January 1983 at Patrick Testa’s auto body shop. As DeMeo prepared to drink coffee, Senter and Testa opened fire. DeMeo was later found stuffed in his trunk, shot multiple times in the head. A chandelier had been dumped over his body—possibly a symbolic or mocking gesture.
After DeMeo’s death, Senter and Testa transitioned into the Lucchese crime family. They were reportedly involved in the June 13, 1986, assassination of Russian mobster Vladimir Reznikov, who had threatened Marat Balagula, a key moneymaker for the Five Families through a gasoline tax scam.
In 1986, Senter and Testa were arrested and tried for car theft and murder, but the jury was deadlocked. The following year, new charges stuck. On September 14, 1989, both men were convicted of racketeering and 10 counts of murder. Each received life sentences.
While imprisoned, Senter remained connected to the outside through his family. In 1994, it was discovered that his cousin Dominic Vulpis had been making fraudulent pension contributions on Senter’s behalf—$30,000 over six years. The scheme was ultimately exposed, and Senter was disqualified from receiving any union benefits.
After more than three decades behind bars, Senter was granted parole on June 22, 2022, and was transferred to a New York halfway house in December 2023. He was officially released in 2024. His lifelong friend and fellow Gemini Twin, Joseph Testa, was paroled shortly after, in April 2024.
