Murder Story

On March 9, 2006, Anthony J. Santos and Craig Powell had a disagreement that escalated into a violent confrontation. The argument started over a request for $5, which Powell refused to lend to Santos for cigarettes. This disagreement continued throughout the day, leading to increased tension between the two men.

Late at night, just after midnight on March 10, 2006, the argument turned physical. They were inside a Bethlehem apartment when they began to fight in the kitchen. During this struggle, Santos took out a three-inch folding knife. In the heat of the moment, he stabbed Powell in the chest. The knife punctured an artery and hit one of Powell's lungs.

After being injured, Powell was taken to a hospital, but he bled to death a few hours later. Following the incident, Santos was arrested and charged with murder. He was later found guilty of third-degree murder in February 2007. On June 15, 2007, Santos was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison for the crime.
