Andrew's early life seemed pretty normal. His father worked as a stockbroker, which allowed them to live a comfortable life for a while. But things started to change when his father left the family and fled to the Philippines to avoid arrest for embezzlement. This sudden turn of events left the family struggling, and Andrew's life took a different path.
After high school, Andrew briefly attended the University of California, San Diego, where he studied American history. However, he didn't finish his degree and moved to the Castro District in San Francisco, a well-known area for its LGBTQ+ community. There, he began to live a more lavish lifestyle than he could afford. He often befriended wealthy older men who would pay for his expenses.
Andrew was known for being charming and having a good sense of style. He enjoyed the finer things in life, such as expensive clothes and fancy restaurants. However, beneath this glamorous surface, Andrew's life was far from stable. He was often dishonest about his background and financial situation, creating a web of lies to maintain his luxurious lifestyle.
murder story
Next, on May 9, 1997, Andrew killed Lee Miglin, a prominent real estate developer, in Chicago. Miglin was found in his garage, bound and brutally stabbed. Andrew then fled in Miglin’s car. His next victim was William Reese, a cemetery caretaker in New Jersey, whom he shot on May 12, 1997, to steal his truck.
The most famous of Andrew's victims was fashion designer Gianni Versace, whom he shot on July 15, 1997, outside Versace’s mansion in Miami Beach. This murder brought Andrew into the national spotlight, triggering a massive manhunt.
Andrew Cunanan's crime spree ended on July 23, 1997, when he took his own life in a houseboat in Miami Beach. He used the same gun with which he had killed Versace. Andrew's motives remain unclear, but his actions left a lasting impact on many lives.
