Murder Story

On October 14, 1977, Alton Waye, then 34 years old, murdered 61-year-old Lavergne B. Marshall in her home located in Lunenburg County, Virginia. He gained her trust by asking to use her telephone. Once inside, he forced her upstairs, where he sexually assaulted her. Waye then retrieved a butcher knife from the kitchen and stabbed her 42 times, causing her death.

After the attack, Waye placed her body in a bathtub and poured bleach over it. He further ransacked her home, took the phone off the hook, and turned on the television. Following the incident, he called the police to confess to the murder and led them back to the scene.

Waye was arrested on the same day. He was charged with capital murder and later convicted in 1978. His trial lasted only a few days, with the jury deliberating for about ten minutes before finding him guilty and sentencing him to death.

Alton Waye was executed on August 30, 1989, in Virginia's electric chair. He was pronounced dead at 11:05 PM after receiving a lethal dose of electricity.
