murder story
Allen Lee Davis was executed on July 8, 1999, for the murders he committed in 1982. He killed Nancy Weiler, who was three months pregnant, in Jacksonville, Florida. Reports say that he beat her severely with a .357 Magnum, hitting her more than 25 times in the face and head. He also murdered her two daughters, nine-year-old Kristina and five-year-old Katherine. Kristina was shot twice in the face, while Katherine was shot as she tried to escape and was beaten with the gun.
Davis's execution occurred by electrocution using a device known as "Old Sparky." During the execution, witnesses saw him bleed from his nose. Reports stated that he had taken blood-thinning medication prior to the execution. The electric chair applied a significant amount of electrical energy to him in three steps. It started with 1,500 volts for eight seconds, followed by 600 volts for 22 seconds, and finished with another 1,500 volts for another eight seconds.
There was controversy surrounding the manner of his execution. Many people spoke out against the use of the electric chair, citing it as cruel and unusual punishment. A Florida Supreme Court decision upheld electrocution as a method of capital punishment, but the incident involving Davis raised questions about its humanity.
Davis had a lengthy history of crime, including charges for armed robbery and child molestation. He was on parole for armed robbery when he committed the murders. His last meal before execution included lobster tail, fried potatoes, fried shrimp, fried clams, garlic bread, and Root Beer.
Davis remains notable as the last person executed by electric chair in Florida. Following his execution, the state switched to lethal injection as the primary method of execution, although inmates can still choose electrocution.
