— Alex Pagan
Alex Pagan was born on March 25, 1969. Pagan became involved in criminal activities at a young age. He was known to have participated in minor offenses, which later escalated to more serious crimes. His life took a troubling turn as he continued to engage in illegal activities, which shaped his future decisions.
By the time he reached adulthood, Pagan had developed a reputation for being involved in thefts and burglaries.
In January 1993, Pagan broke into a family's home, taking items of value. He returned to the same house later that month, indicating a growing pattern of criminal behavior.
On February 23, 1993, Alex Pagan and Willie Graham broke into the home of Freddy Jones in Broward County, Florida. They had previously burglarized the same house a month earlier. This time, they wore ski masks and entered through a sliding glass door. Inside, they found Freddy, his wife Latasha, their 18-month-old son Lafayette, and their six-year-old son Michael Lynn asleep.
The intruders demanded money. When Freddy said he did not have any, one of the men began to search the house. He found Michael in another room and brought him back to the master bedroom. They then forced Latasha at gunpoint to help search the house. When they could not find the money they were looking for, they became violent. Pagan tied up the family and shot Freddy once in the head. He then shot Michael multiple times and also shot Latasha, who survived. After the shootings, Pagan and Graham left the scene.
Latasha managed to free herself from her restraints and called for help. She discovered that Freddy and Michael were not responding and ran outside with her baby to seek assistance. Freddy had died from his injuries, and Michael's body was also found with multiple gunshot wounds.
Pagan was arrested four days later on February 27, 1993, after evidence linked him to the crime. Items taken during the earlier burglary were found in his possession. Witnesses testified to seeing Pagan and Graham wearing stolen jewelry, and one witness reported that Pagan had openly confessed to the murders.
In October 1998, Pagan was sentenced to death for his crimes. The charges included two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, burglary with a firearm, and robbery with a firearm. His co-defendant, Willie Graham, received life sentences for the same crimes.
