1945Albert Everette Sala was born in 1909 in Oakland, California. He grew up in a city known for its mix of cultures and opportunities. However, his childhood was difficult, and by the time he was a teenager, he had already started getting into trouble. His first encounters with the law occurred when he was just thirteen years old. Sala began building an extensive criminal record at a young age.
As he grew older, he became involved in more serious crimes. At one point, he was convicted of rape and was sent to San Quentin, a well-known prison in California. Sala was in prison when he escaped from a harvesting team on September 6, 1945. This escape marked a turning point in his life as he decided to hitchhike to travel across the state.
After he escaped, Sala found himself hitchhiking in Nevada. That day, he was picked up by a man named Albert McCollum. They began their journey together across Nevada. Their trip took a dark turn when Sala planned to rob McCollum. As the events unfolded, Sala's actions would lead to a tragic outcome.
Albert Everette Sala was convicted of murdering Albert McCollum in Elko County, Nevada. The murder occurred on September 6, 1945. Sala was hitchhiking when McCollum picked him up. They traveled together across the state of Nevada. During the journey, Sala decided to rob McCollum.
Sala believed that McCollum had more money than he actually did. In an effort to get the money, Sala used a monkey wrench and a hammer to attack McCollum. The beating caused severe injuries, and McCollum eventually died from these injuries.
After the murder, Sala was apprehended and faced charges for his actions. He was later found guilty of the crime. On August 23, 1946, he was executed by asphyxiation-gas in Nevada State Prison.
