1993Alan Willett was born in 1947. He grew up in a small town in Arkansas. Little is known about his early life, but it is evident that he had a family. He eventually became a father and had three children.
As an adult, Willett worked various jobs and was known in his community. He appeared to be a typical family man. However, like many individuals, he faced personal challenges. His life began to change dramatically in the early 1990s when he struggled with significant family issues, including pressure from social services. This period was marked by increasing stress which seemed to affect him deeply.
In 1993, Willett carried out violent actions against his family members that would change the course of his life forever. Following these events, he was arrested on the same day and subsequently faced legal proceedings for his actions. His life ended in 1999 when he was executed by lethal injection in Arkansas.
On September 14, 1993, Alan Willett committed murders in Johnson County, Arkansas. He killed his 13-year-old son, Eric Willett, and his mentally disabled brother, Roger Willett. The murders took place early in the morning. Alan used an eight-pound window weight to carry out the attacks.
First, he attacked his daughter, Ruby, who was the oldest of his children. He hit her on the head with the weapon, but she woke up and screamed. This commotion brought Eric into the room, and while Ruby managed to escape with her youngest brother, Jonathan, Alan struck Eric and then turned to Roger.
After the attacks, Alan locked himself in the bathroom and attempted suicide by cutting his wrists and throat. Law enforcement arrived shortly after the attacks. They found that Eric had likely lived for about thirty minutes after being struck, while Roger was still alive when officers reached the scene.
Alan Willett was arrested the same day as the murders. He later faced trial for the killings and was ultimately sentenced to death. His death sentence was affirmed in subsequent appeals, and he was executed by lethal injection on September 8, 1999.
