murder story

Between 1992 and 1995, Çolak terrorized the Artvin Province by targeting elderly individuals aged between 68 and 95. He murdered eleven people, six of whom were women he raped before killing. His modus operandi involved attacking victims in their homes, often using an axe, which led to his nickname "The Axe Murderer."

In one notable incident, Çolak attacked a woman who survived and provided a detailed description to the authorities, leading to his arrest. At the time of his capture, he was 28 years old and working as a shepherd in the area.

Çolak was apprehended in 1995 following the survivor's testimony. Due to security concerns, his trial was moved to the Zonguldak 1 Heavy Criminal Court. The proceedings lasted over five years, during which he exhibited contradictory statements. On June 23, 2000, he was convicted and received six death sentences along with an additional 112 years of imprisonment.

In 2004, Turkey abolished the death penalty, leading to the commutation of Çolak's sentence to life imprisonment. Subsequently, under a Conditional Release arrangement known as the "Rahşan Amnesty," he was released from prison on May 28, 2005.
