WATCH: Bulldozer Attack at Beijing Market Leaves Multiple Casualties Amid Information Blackout

March 30, 2026

  • A bulldozer charged into a crowd at Dahanji Market in Beijing, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.
  • Witnesses reported the driver broke through a checkpoint before the violent incident occurred.
  • Chinese state media has not reported on the incident, leading to heavy censorship of related content online.

BEIJING — Chaos erupted at a large rural market in southwestern Beijing on Saturday morning when a heavy-duty bulldozer charged into a crowd of shoppers, leaving an unknown number of people dead or injured.

The incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. at the Dahanji Market in the Fangshan District. Eyewitness accounts and videos that briefly circulated on social media platforms like Douyin and WeChat showed a yellow front loader driving through the market area, crushing stalls and striking pedestrians.

Breach of Security and Response

Witnesses reported that the bulldozer appeared to intentionally break through a section of road that had been closed off or guarded by a checkpoint before entering the crowded market space. In the aftermath of the crash, graphic footage showed multiple individuals lying motionless on the pavement while bystanders shouted for help.

Local law enforcement responded to the scene and took the driver, identified as a man in his 50s, into custody. While the suspect has been detained, officials have not yet provided details regarding his identity or what may have prompted the violent incident.

Censorship and Discrepancy in Reports

As of Monday, Chinese state media and government officials have remained silent regarding the crash. Digital investigators noted that related videos, keywords, and even the market's name have been heavily censored on Chinese internet platforms. One report from a local news account was deleted shortly after publication, and searches for "Dahanji Market" on major video apps now return no results.

Despite the information blackout, unconfirmed reports circulating on international platforms suggest the death toll could be at least eight people, with many more critically injured.
