CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — A mother and her 9-year-old son were violently attacked by a group of children outside Orville T. Bright Elementary School on Monday afternoon, in a disturbing assault that left both victims hospitalized and shocked the community.

The incident took place near the 10600 block of South Bensley Avenue in the South Deering neighborhood. Viral footage captured the moment several kids surrounded the pair, screamed profanities, and began punching, kicking, and throwing them to the ground near a chain-link fence.

Vicious Attack Captured on Video

The victims, identified by local outlets as 33-year-old Corshawnda Hatter and her son, had just left the school when they were approached by the group. According to the video, the boy attempted to shield his mother as she was beaten. At one point, he too was knocked to the ground and struck repeatedly.

Witnesses say the children separated the two and continued attacking them. The mother was left with visible facial injuries, and both were transported to Trinity Hospital in serious condition. No arrests have been made as of this report.

Claims of Ongoing Bullying Spark Outrage

Hatter told reporters her son had been bullied for more than two years and claimed the school failed to intervene. She said she believes the group was waiting for them and ambushed them deliberately.

“I’m trying to get justice for my son,” she told local news.

The family’s story has ignited outrage, prompting a demonstration outside the school. Dozens of concerned residents gathered to demand disciplinary action, chanting “no justice, no peace.”
