Details of the Collision

Turner and her teammate, Ashlyn Gwynn, were riding electric scooters to attend a men’s soccer game at about 7 p.m. on Associated Road, just north of the university. According to Fullerton Police, the students were in the second lane when a box truck, described as a Ford Econoline E350, struck them from behind.

Lauren Turner (left, No. 5) died and teammate Ashlyn Gwynn (right, No. 7) was seriously injured after they were struck by a truck while riding e-scooters near campus.

The driver stopped immediately and cooperated with authorities. Investigators said neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be factors in the crash, and no arrests have been made.

Teammate’s Recovery and Team Tributes

Turner was a standout player for the Cal State Fullerton Titans, appearing in all twenty matches of her freshman year and starting in eight during her sophomore season before the crash.

Her teammate, Ashlyn Gwynn, was also seriously injured and continues to recover after being transferred from the intensive care unit to a step-down facility.

Lauren Turner, a beloved Cal State Fullerton Titan, passed away nearly six weeks after she was critically injured in a collision.

Throughout the season, the Titan women’s soccer team honored both players by wearing wristbands and arm patches inscribed with their initials and jersey numbers: LT5 and AG7. Teammates described Turner as “the funniest, most charismatic, and loving person” who was deeply cherished by her Titan family.

A candlelight vigil will be held for Turner on Wednesday at Titan Stadium on the Cal State Fullerton campus.
